What did we learn from Karbala? 10th
Muharram, 1429 H at New Brunswick Islamic Center
A brief history of the incident of Karbala - the
martyrdom of Imam Husain (may God be pleased with
him). The emphasis is on learning form our past and
working together as Muslims. "If God had willed He
would have made you into a single nation." The
khutba is not a judgment on shia or sunna but rather
a call to mutual respect and harmony given the
current state of affairs in the Muslim world.
Purification Process Princeton University
MSA.
The spiritual science of Ihsan is based on
excellence. A simple explanation of character
development in Islam. as A person of ihsan or
tazkiya puts God before everything. This
Purification process begins with repentance. It
leads a person to embodying the Prophetic character
of "worship God as though you see Him and if you
cannot reach that stage, then He surely sees you".
Unity & Brotherhood
Dec. 28, 2008
Masjid Saffat, Oxford St.
Khutba Trenton, New Jersey
We have to unite the Ummah on the way of our beloved
Prophet Muhammad. He united the Muhajirin and the
Ansar by building a community that was united under
the Quran and the sunnah of Our Prophet. They were
one brotherhood under God. It was a unity of hearts
with diversity of opinions, races, colors, genders,
languages, etc.
Let us remember that unity is an injunction in the
Quran and not a prescribed position. We need to
sacrifice our opinions for the sake of unity. We
need to prefer others over ourselves and petty
opinions and arguments. Unity is only achieved with
sacrifice. We must recognize the diversity of this
ummah and strive to achieve harmony and not discord.

Institution Building - "If you
build it, they will come".
American Muslim community is in need
of strong institutions that will train the next
generation of Muslims as believers serving the
humanity. In order to proclaim the message of
Islam, believers must embody the prophetic model.
How will Islam in America is going to shape in next
25 years; it all depends on what we do as believers
today.
The Race for the Hereafter
ISCJ Aug.
24, 2007
Everybody is running around to obtain
luxury. Indeed, secularism has found a religion in
materialism. The Prophet (s) said, "Destroyed is
the worshiper of gold and silver". Are we free
from this material worship? Muslims are a spiritual
community and they must remain steadfast on the way
of the Prophet (s) by racing for the hereafter and
not towards materialism.
Let us seek Allah's reward and bounty
in this race together.

Sirah - The Story of Jabir bin Abdullah
(14 minutes)
March 23, 2007 - Princeton University
The
Prophet's mission was to connect each and everyone
of you to God. This is what his life was all about.
You have a direct relationship with Allah. You
cannot understand or practice or become beloved of
God, unless you practice his way. For this reason,
it is imperative that we read, understand, and
study, the life of the Prophet (s). We want to be
these people who once guided humanity through their
actions, not with their big speeches. They were
people who showed humanity how to live like human
beings. They didn't simply talk about how to live as
a Muslim, they practiced this art. This is the
challenge for me as a speaker and you as listeners
today. Live Islam, do not contradict it.
WHAT WE NEED
KHUTBA: NBIC March 2, 2007 Time: 23 min.
The first part covers the explanation of Prophet
Noah's statement:
"I say, seek forgiveness of your Lord, He is
Oft-forgiving. He will send down rain from the
heavens. He will increase you in wealth, children,
gardens, and rivers. What is the matter with you
that you do not recognize the status of God. Yet, He
is the one who created you in many stages" (Surah
Nuh).
The second part relates to the Muslim community in
America. What are some of the needs of the Muslim
community. It is a lengthy list but the speaker
briefly touched on the following: brotherhood
(unity), place for women in the house of God, the
need for women scholars, educational programs,
native scholars who understand the needs of the
community, etc.

A building (for mosque)
is good as long as you have people making sajdah
- that's a masjid. Unless we have people
performing sajdas in masjid, it's an
empty place... Most beautiful of all the
mosques, they decorated the pulpit with gold,
silver, gemstones, and the double arcade structure,
but today it's a museum - people pay for a ticket to
see the artwork but not to pray. Masjid is a
place where people show up to worship Allah, to take
care of the concerns of believers, and to provide
social services...

Good People - Bad
People, Where Do You fit?
The Qur'an gives
description of the people of success and the people
of loss in the hereafter. The people of success have
something in common. And the losers repeat the
pattern of their predecessors.
GOOD PEOPLE:
believers, do good actions, benefit others,
have good hearts, main concern is hereafter,
grateful, relate good with Allah, humble, receive
titles from God, etc.
BAD PEOPLE:
disbelievers, do bad actions, harm others,
have hard hearts, main concern is here and now,
ungrateful, relate good with themselves, proud, work
for titles (name), etc.

Gender Relations - How Much is Too Much!
March 11, 2006
Venue: Masjid al-Aman -Islamic Society of
Monmouth County, NJ
A session with Faraz Khan and Abu Yousuf and
youth from Masjid al-Aman. The speaker connected the topic with one's
relationship with God: "Gender relation is based on your relationship with God,
if you have that ok than gender relation will be ok... Sister so and so has the
homework ... you go out there and by the time you are done with your second
study session you are quoting from Romeo and Juliet...Why should you avoid these
things? Allah says in the Qur'an, "those who believe their love of God is
intense". "In the body there is a morsel of flesh if it's good then the entire
body is good and if it is unhealthy then the entire body will be sick - know for
surety, it is the heart. therefore, guard your heart".
Philosophy:
Man, Universe, and Life - A Qur'anic
Paradigm
A lecture delivered to the
medical students at UMDNJ in Piscataway, NJ.
The
focus of this talk is on philosophical inquiries that have haunted human beings
since time known. Many theologians, philosophers, scientists, and
intellectuals have formulated different elucidations for the descent of man, the
place of man in universe, and the ever-perplexing, arcane, yet ephemeral life.
The prime motive of this talk is to look at these fundamental questions based on
the Qur’anic paradigm. Qur’an, the holy book of Islam revealed 1400 years ago to
Prophet Muhammad (p) in Makkah; it was the first book ever written in Arabic.
The Qur’an had an unprecedented effect on its followers and provided a
foundation for a civilization that dominated the field of science, philosophy,
sociology, medicine, mathematics, astronomy, etc. The speaker will elaborate on
the Qur’anic worldview in relation to the descent and complexities of man,
universe, and life.
The speaker describes "Man is
in this Universe to be tested and this is understanding of life described in the
Qur'an"... It wants human beings to think and it mentions that this message is
given to those who have the ability to think ..."
The People of God
A speech delivered at New
York University - MSA. The khutba is on Awliya Allah or the People of
God. Everyday people who turned their life around and made God their priority.
The khutba expounds on inspirational sacrifices of Godly men and women such as
Fatima bint Abdullah who donated her wealth to build an Islamic institute in
Qairawan. Ahmed Zarruq, an orphan boy who was a cobbler by trade later became
the head of Maliki fuqaha in al-Azhar sharief. Fudail bin 'Iyad who gave up
theft. Bashr al-Hafi who learned from a stranger at his door that he was not a
free man. Jigar Muradabadi, a poet who preferred to die in obedience to God
rather than live a long sinful life. They were ordinary people who turned their
lives toward God and in return became extraordinary.

The Cartoon Fiasco
New Brunswick Islamic Center, New
Jersey.
Feb. 17, 2006
The speaker defines the
parameters for a response based on Islamic principles to the latest crisis i.e.
blasphemous cartoons. The speaker urged Muslims to hold higher moral standard of
Islam against prejudice, bigotry, and hate. In search of a response, the speaker
looks into the response formulated by the Prophet and his noble companions and
those who succeeded in their footsteps. Two historical examples from the
glorious past were quoted from the lives of Salahuddin Ayubi and Sultan Mehmet.
To define a believer's response the speaker said, "When his (the Prophet's) name
is mentioned, believers respond by stating 'peace and salutations of God be upon
him".
